Introducing ParaSail from Newport Laboratories: the swine industry’s FIRST avirulent live, one dose Haemophilus parasuis vaccine.

Impressive Protection
ParaSail
is the ONLY commercial Haemophilus parasuis vaccine proven to protect against THREE of the most predominant strains of the disease currently circulating: serotype 4 (25% of cases), serotype 5 (15% of cases)
1, and serotype 132.

Proven Efficacy
ParaSail
has been proven to be a safe, effective means of protection.

In study after study, pigs vaccinated with ParaSail demonstrate clear protection in the face of both homologous and heterologous challenges. ParaSail does not set pigs back on rate of gain, temperature, or mortality3. The safety of ParaSail has been proven in numerous studies.

In multiple side-by-side comparisons, a single dose of ParaSail showed similar efficacy to a two-dose regime4,5. Single-dose protection means cost and labor savings, as well as less stress on young pigs. The USDA has approved ParaSail as a one-dose product.

Proven Safety
In field safety studies conducted at three separate, independent farms, pigs vaccinated with ParaSail were free from adverse reactions 99.345% of the time. By the conclusion of the study (21 days) only one of the 1,054 (0.095%) animals still had swelling at the injection site.

Overall, the presence of adverse systemic reactions associated with the vaccine were limited to one farm, where it was low, transitory, and not associated with mortality. Any injection site lesions, which were primarily seen at one site, were substantially resolved by the conclusion of the study and were not shown to be a significant result of vaccination with ParaSail.

In all three locations, pigs receiving ParaSail also received vaccination for PCV2 and Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae within twenty-four hours of receiving ParaSail.

Unbeatable Convenience
ParaSail offers unbeatable protection as well as unbeatable convenience:

  • One-dose formulation means labor savings and less stress on pigs
  • Low 1mL dose size means minimum tissue disruption
  • Convenient IM injection means ease of administration
ParaSail eliminates the need for later treatment with antibiotics. Why attempt to treat an outbreak with time-consuming antibiotics when you can simply vaccinate in the first place?

ParaSail is easy to rehydrate. A simple, easy-to-read instruction sheet in both English and Spanish is included with each bottle for simplified vaccine crew training.

Haemophilus parasuis: A Growing Threat
In a recent survey of state veterinary diagnostic laboratories, the incidence of H. parasuis among all cases submitted ranged up to as high as 40% at one laboratory6. All labs reported that H. parasuis cases were complicated by co-infections of PCVAD and PRRS.

The most recent report from the USDA National Animal Health Monitoring Service (NAHMS) revealed that the incidence of H. parasuis is on the rise (2000 to 2006):

  • 230% increase in nursery pig incidence - increasing from 7.3% to 17.4%
  • 340% increase in grower/finisher pig incidence - increasing from 5.4% to 18.7%7

There's no doubt that H. parasuis is here to stay, and it's becoming more and more prevalent. It shouldn't be a question of IF you vaccinate, but WHEN...and there's no question as to which vaccine to use:
