Laboratory Opportunities
Job Function/Requirements: 
  • Responsible for cleaning the labs, monitoring temperatures on fridge/freezer and incubators, disposing biohazard waste, autoclaving and cleaning glass ware on a day-to-day basis. Complies with HSE/safety rules and regulations.
Essential Job Duties: 
  • Incumbent will wipe down all counter tops and equipment
  • He/she will clean/disinfect and organize lab
  • Will assemble boxes, package swabs, and shippers
  • Will deliver and store warehouse orders and receive shipments
  • He/she will wash dishes for all department to prepare for dry load autoclave run
  • Will operate autoclave
  • Will monitor temperatures of freezers, fridge and incubators
  • Incumbent will fill out all necessary paperwork
  • Will assist with projects and help BDR staff as needed
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on occasion
Nature and Scope: 
  • Reports to a designated supervisor or manager or scientist
  • Interacts with a variety of areas and personnel within the company
  • He/she acts within the guidelines established by Company policy and delegated authority
  • Incumbent ensures he/she works within regulatory guidelines according to government regulations
  • Accountable for complying with the Company Handbook and all policies set by the Company
  • Accountable for complying with the BIAH/Newport Business Code of Ethics to the highest standards
  • The position requires a high school diploma, GED or 2-3 year degree
  • Incumbent must pass medical clearance/fit testing, when required
  • He/she must be able to comprehend microbiology techniques and language
  • Must be willing to learn basic lab skills and lab work ethics
  • Must capable to work in a microbiology laboratory handling animal/zoonotic pathogens
  • Incumbent must be able to do mathematics through algebra and be competent in the metric system
  • Position requires good verbal and written skills as well as good record keeping abilities
  • He/she must be able to follow directions and work with minimal supervision
  • Must follow all safety rules and take precautions to avoid lab accidents
