Laboratory Technician I, Quality Control

Job Function/Requirements: 
  • To assist and support the overall Quality program, to ensure site wide compliance in production, testing, and distribution of veterinary biologic products, within the guidelines set by regulatory agencies as well as Boehringer-Ingelheim
Essential Job Duties: 
  • Follow SOP’s in an efficient and accurate manner
  • Clean and maintain aseptic work environment
  • Take inventory of samples and equipment
  • Prepare media, glassware and biohazard waste for autoclaving; perform autoclaving operation
  • Dispense media(s) as needed
  • Perform tasks in a sterile and/or aseptic environment
  • Maintain animals and animal barns
  • Perform tests on animals and make accurate observations
  • Successfully and accurately communicate results
  • Incumbent will promote safety in all areas of work and follow Good Laboratory Practices
  • Rapidly and accurately adjust to Quality department needs in response to unplanned circumstances
  • Work with minimal supervision
  • Work occasional weekends
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on occasion, able to bend, twist and perform repeated fine motor manipulations
  • Other duties as assigned
Nature and Scope: 
  • The incumbent reports to the Quality Control Supervisor
  • Assists with projects with clear direction
  • The incumbent interacts and communicates well with others throughout the company
  • Follows procedures and adheres to good laboratory practices
  • Accurately and clearly record and communicate results
  • Incumbent acts within the guidelines established by company policy and delegated authority
  • Must understand and work with regulatory guidelines established by USDA
  • Accountable for complying with the BIAH/Newport Business Code of Ethics to the highest standards
  • Accountable for complying with the Company handbook and all policies set by the Company
  • The position requires a high school diploma or GED; a two year degree and animal experience are highly desirable
  • Ability to comprehend microbiology techniques and language
  • Ability to work in a microbiology laboratory
  • Good verbal and written skills and good record keeping abilities
  • Incumbent must be able to do mathematics through algebra and be competent in the metric system
  • Competency with MS Office Suite applications as well as Adobe Suite and other database applications of intermediate to advanced level is highly desirable
