Clostridium perfringens Type A: Piglet Neonatal Diarrhea
Clinical Signs:
- Piglets begin scouring at one to five days of age
- Piglets have watery diarrhea, dehydration, and become chilled with pasty fecal stains on their hair coats
- Often, approximately 90% of the pigs in the affected litter are scouring
- As many as 50% of the litters are affected
- May be no difference between the gilt and sow litters
- Economic impact means piglets are set back 4 to 5 days
