Newport Laboratories Diagnostics
Our staff is experienced in isolating both bacteria and viruses from tissues and blood.
Available services include:
- Microbiological culture and sensitivity for routine bacteria
- Antibiotic susceptibility testing
- Serological antibody profiles to monitor herd pathogens and exposure
- Virus isolation techniques for viral pathogens such as PRRS and SIV
Our Molecular Biology Laboratory also offers a variety of testing for our swine and bovine clients. PCR (polymerase chain reaction) is a common diagnostic test used for amplifying DNA and testing for different bacteria and viruses. Genotyping is another form of PCR used to show different genotypes of certain bacterial species, which is useful in detecting changes in a herd and making vaccines. Other services include DNA fingerprinting for Mycoplasma bovis, DNA sequencing for Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) virus, Porcine Circovirus (PCV), Swine Influenza Virus (SIV), and BVD PI testing.
As an added service, Newport provides FREE diagnostic shippers with a return label, making collecting and submitting samples a breeze. Click the link to the right to request your shipper.
