Robert Tims
Education: Robert Tims graduated from Minnesota State University-Mankato with B.S. in Electronic Engineering Technology, and a Minor in Computer Science and has a MBA degree from the University of Sioux Falls. Robert has also completed the Advanced Officer Training Course in US Army.
Industry Experience: Robert Tims joined Newport Laboratories as VP Sales and Marketing in October 2011, and brings 25 years of experience in Sales/Marketing/New Product Development. After receiving his B.S. in EET, Robert Tims worked as Continuation Engineer at Astrocom Corp in St Paul, MN before going to Winland Electronics in Mankato, MN as VP Manufacturing. Tims served nine years in the U.S. Army Reserves rising in rank from Private to Captain and commanded the 417th LEMCO in Faribault, MN. He next moved to Bedford Industries in Worthington, MN as Quality Assurance Manager. During a 20 year employment he was successfully promoted in positions of additional responsibility including Quality Assurance, Training, New Products, Purchasing, Product Development and Sales. During his leadership, Bedford developed a competitive sourcing system and numerous product lines for On Pack Promotion (OPP), retail brand awareness, and for compliance with new C.O.O.L. regulations. Tims was instrumental in process capability expansions and development of a worldwide network of sales and distribution which resulted in significant increases in sales and market share.
Role at Newport: As VP Sales and Marketing, Tims is responsible to build systems that increase market share and raise brand awareness of Newport Laboratories. Robert is responsible for overseeing key relationships and agreements for customers in the Swine, Bovine and Cervidae markets. He looks to identify new product opportunities that match Newport’s core process capabilities. Tims believes in developing systems that fulfill customer expectations.
