Footrot

  • A significant problem in many pasture and feedlot situations requiring antibacterials, organic iodide, individual foot medication and foot baths for group treatment
  • Lameness and immobility decreases gain, restricting sale to after full recovery
  • Fusobacterium necrophorum is most commonly associated with footrot in cattle, but other organisms may be involved as well
  • Specialized transport media will aid in isolation of F. necrophorum
  • Combination bacterins may include footrot with pinkeye or BRD pathogens
